When we were The Help

I just keep telling myself

1. Your own kids are easier to take care of
2. They don't come all at once
3. I know why their parents took a vacation to Hawaii
4. Tanner is going to be an incredible dad. I already knew that. But now I really know it
5. I like watching little girls blow bubbles
6. We adore these children
7. Spaghettios= food group for ages 5 and under
8. 8 a.m. is not a good time for me
9. I get migraines really bad when there are little kids screaming
10. Last night was one of those times. Everyone was screaming, it was ten minutes before dinner, and they were all congregated in one room. With us. I asked them nicely, to please go have some quiet time before dinner. About five time. Everyone kept laughing and smiling and screaming. We had been with these kids for a week now. So this was the breaking point. I turned, (raised my eyebrows-I learned this as a preschool teacher) and said. "I am so serious right now. Everyone go to your room and have quiet time until dinner". I was not yelling, but my voice was stern and serious. They kept laughing. Tanner got up, literally hauled them out the door and into their rooms. While the nearly twelve year old boy yelled, "This is my house! I can be in whatever room I want to!" To which Tanner and I replied at the same moment, "We're in charge!"

No yelling occurred besides the children. Who up to this point, haven't made us break down. They constantly give us hugs and tell us they love us so we figure we have been strict but still fun.

11. The 5 year old said the "f" word this morning.

Their parents get home in four hours. Ask me if I'm excited.

  1. Haha, Katrina this made me laugh. Congrats on the marriage and this might help you stay child-free for a couple years. I know Kevin and I have had similar experiences.

  2. hahah. oh man, welcome to working at the YMCA. I feel ya. But somehow I can't even see you having a 'stern' voice. And isn't the HELP the best?! I had to fly home for an unexpected funeral and then decided to spend some time with my family in Bear Lake since I was here...So I will mail you your pictures as soon as I get home. Most likely tuesday :) They are beautiful, my favorite really. I can't wait for you to see them. love you pretty girl.

  3. Katrina I love your blog! I loved The Help too! And I kind of hate babysitting for long periods of time...is that bad? Becoming an instant aunt to 20 nieces and nephews has totally changed my perspective on wanting kids RIGHT away...I love that you're married now! I am so sorry we couldn't come to your reception but I hope I find a chance to see you soon because you are just the cutest. And sorry I left a novel on your comments :)
