Are you there?

Well, now I feel as if I'm writing to no one.
Here's the reasoning behind going private.
I was looking at where my traffic was coming from and saw a site that linked 23 viewers to my blog. I hadn't seen it before so I clicked. It led me to a pornography site. I was completely sickened as I closed my browser and couldn't shake the awful image I saw. I sat there praying and trying to push away the image and nasty feeling I had. After many prayers I finally began to wonder how in the world people could find my blog through that site. I did not want any one in the whole world to be able to click my blog so I decided to go private.
Since then, I think only two people have viewed the blog?
I blog partly for journaling purposes but I also blog to get my ideas out there and get feedback. I also read other people's blogs to catch up and see what is going on in my friend's lives. I imagine some people read this blog for the same reason. There seems no point in posting if no one will view it.

So faithful readers...all two of you...What should I do? Keep it private or open this blog up again? Are there other privacy settings I can switch around so I don't get traffic from unwanted sources? Any insight you have would be great.

  1. I love reading your blog, but I wouldn't want those people finding my blog either. I'm not sure what the right choice would be, but I'll keep reading no matter what!

  2. I've thought about this recently. I know I want to blog more once I have my baby so that my family can keep up with what is going on in our lives. Although, I don't want creepers looking at my baby! haha I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet! Sorry, no help here! haha

  3. I think it's a totally personal decision! And, if you blog for journaling and feedback, going private doesn't jeopardize the fulfillment of either of those purposes. Personally, I love reading your blog and being able to read updates! And, I feel like you reach the people who really care about what's going on in your life. It's definitely concerning that creepers could be accessing your blog from unsavory websites. The nice thing with public is that you reach more readers, and with private that you can feel better about blogging more openly.

  4. Your blog is awesome and I'll keep reading no matter what. :) It's definitely a question to consider, though, and one that my husband and I talk about occasionally. I think there are pros and cons of both situations and a lot of it hinges on what you want to post on your blog, too. *shrug* Don't quit blogging, though!

  5. For some reason even though I thought I was following your blog I came to see it today and found out you've published a bunch of posts I wasn't alerted to! So, that's frustrating. That's super weird with the cite link. Do whatever, I'll always read. Slash I'll always be your sister and have updates on your life some way or another. :)

    1. Same here! About thinking I was following and getting updates, not the sister thing.

I am going to see what I can do to get this blog on my feed.

  9. Like Anna, I wasn't alerted to your latest posts either and I love reading your blog! I made my blog private for the same reasons, I was worried about creepers. I decided that I'm not really aiming or speaking to an audience full of strangers, even though I've been contacted by random people who found my blog through so-and-so and let me know they loved my writing and wanted to be blog friends. I admit that felt great to be admired by a few random gals I didn't know, but at the same time, my blog is more about journaling for myself and for friends and family. So maybe keep this blog private but your food blog public? I dunno, totally up to you :)

  10. (I know this is like... 2 months too late) but upon reading about this I was reminded of something I had recently read on the same topic, found here: http://theboard.byu.edu/questions/72415/. Basically, some unsavory sites create false/spammy traffic reports to try to lure people into their sites. It doesn't always mean that there is something referring from that site to yours, but it is just another type of spam.
