What is the deal?

Pinterest.
What in the world? I may be way behind the times but I need some info on this. I have been hearing about this website where you can look up just about anything and "pin" your favorite things? I looked up the website, scrolled down and was completely uninterested in pinterest.
Interesting.
I'm taking a class on technology for teachers. Apparently I won't be able to send papers home with my students anymore because that will be completely out of date. Now I have to learn to communicate with the new generation.
I like looking at magazines, cutting and pasting them to my "dream book" (Yes, I really have one). I like reading real books instead of on kindle.
The microwave was made to simplify our lives. Frozen dinners for those who don't have time, and pinterest for people who need more to do with their busy lives.
I like technology. I like blogging. I enjoy browsing recipe, reading talks online and communicating through email. But I don't like all that comes with it. There are wonderful things about the internet and some not so wonderful things. I'm writing a paper in my advanced writing class based upon the question, "Should parents limit their children's internet access because of the possible effects on social interaction".
I think yes.
What do you think?
Do you miss the old interior design magazines, going to a library to read a real book and doing things in real life?

  1. I love old school stuff. I was given a Kindle as a birthday present last year, but I keep going to the bookstore to buy actual books instead. I have a book I cut pages out of magazines and paste them into still, but I seriously love Pinterest. The funny thing is, I got my mom started on it and I think she's more in love with it than I am. My dad and I have had all sorts of new dinners that she's found recipes for on it! I guess I see both sides a little bit

  2. I can see both sides too and I definitely know that I spend too much time on that website...BUT I think it would take me even longer to search the internet to find those things myself, like the awesome sewing tutorials for little girl clothes and fun homemade crafts to decorate with, etc. I am not crafty enough to come up with that stuff on my own and a lot of it comes from blogs, but I don't have time to read every crafty blog there is and find things I like, so I use pinterest instead because lots of other people have looked at one or two blogs and shared their findings with everyone, get it? To each their own, but I love that site!!

  3. I don't think technology necessarily limits us from social interaction, or that because someone uses Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, or another social networking site they are wasting their time or have nothing to do. Like everything in life, it should be used in moderation. When we let social networking become our society, it is out of hand. When we use this medium to connect with friends, get inspired, and grow creativity it is a beautiful and positive thing. I read an article in Oprah today about a guy who set up a site for kids that are gay and considering suicide. He said at the end of it, "We can either use the internet for porn, or use it for good." I absolutely agreed with that. We decide what the internet is to us.
