Ella Minnow Pea-a book you should read.

I just finished a wonderful book.
Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn

It was SUCH a hilarious and intriguing read.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a love of the English language, quirky characters and books like 1984.
It's an epistolary novel about a fictional island off the coast of North Carolina.  Letters from a beloved statue begin to fall and the citizens are left to write and speak with the remaining letters. I found myself laughing near the end of the book because the brilliance of the language was just astounding.

I am so happy I found the library. Any other good book suggestions?

  1. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Hurston. I'm in the middle of it right now and absolutely love it. The character development is incredible as well as its humor, drama, and overall wonderfulness!

  2. I've been hearing rave reviews about "an everlasting meal" by Tamar Adler ... a book about food. which I think you would also love. I'm 3rd on the waiting list...

  3. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. Loved, loved, loved it. I cannot say enough good things about this book. Also, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Odd name, I know, but the book was endearing. Written all in letter-form, but I really enjoyed it.
I hope you find some good ones, and pass some suggestions along when you do... I love the library!
